“Exploring the Forbidden: Urban Exploration Gains Popularity Among Outdoor Enthusiasts”

Urban exploration, also known as urbex, has gained popularity over the years as people seek to explore abandoned or off-limits urban locations. From old factories and hospitals to underground tunnels and rooftops, there is no shortage of places for urban explorers to discover. But what draws people to this activity? And how many people actually participate in urbex?

According to a survey conducted by AllTrails in 2020, 26% of respondents said they have tried urban exploration at least once. Of those who had not tried it yet, 44% expressed interest in doing so. This suggests that the appeal of urbex is growing among outdoor enthusiasts.

One reason for its popularity may be the sense of adventure and excitement that comes with exploring forbidden areas. Many urbexers enjoy the thrill of discovering hidden treasures within these abandoned spaces such as graffiti art or vintage items left behind from previous occupants.

However, there are also risks associated with urban exploration. Trespassing on private property can lead to legal consequences and some abandoned buildings may pose physical dangers like unstable structures or hazardous substances.

Despite these risks, many urbexers take precautions before entering any location such as researching the history of the site beforehand and wearing proper protective gear when necessary.

In terms of demographics, men make up a larger percentage of those who have tried urbex than women according to AllTrails’ survey results. Additionally, younger age groups were more likely to express interest in trying it out than older age groups.

It’s important for anyone considering getting into urban exploration to understand that respect for both personal safety and property rights should always come first. Urbex should never involve breaking laws or causing damage to abandoned sites.

Overall, while not everyone may be drawn to this unique hobby, there is no doubt that it offers an adrenaline rush unlike any other outdoor activity – just remember to stay safe while exploring!
