Gasometer City Vienna: A unique example of adaptive reuse is found in Vienna’s Gasometer City where four former gas storage tanks have been converted into housing units with offices and retail spaces below them at street level. These structures date back to around 1896 when they were built to store coal gas used for street lighting but were eventually decommissioned during Austria’s transition to natural gas.

Ford Rouge Factory Tour, Dearborn Michigan: The Ford Rouge Complex was once considered one of America’s largest factories with over 100 buildings spread out across more than two square miles before it was restructured and downsized starting in the late 1990s but still remains a key site for automotive assembly today producing F-150 trucks among other models.
